NEMLA, Shakespearean Adaptations and Appropriations

Shakespeare and his characters sell everything from fishing equipment to candy. Popular television shows and movies have been inspired by Shakespeare’s plays. This roundtable will explore the ways in which Shakespeare and his plays ‘appear’ in modern popular culture. Participants will consider how these appropriations and adaptations use Shakespeare and examine the impact of these variations in the modern world. Presentations at NEMLA, April 7-10, 2011, New Brunswick, NJ. Please send an proposal of 250 words to Pamela Monaco, Brandman University, pmonaco@brandman.edu.
